  • sunrises and sunsets

So in the hectic shuffle that is my internship and life with PEPY, I almost forgot that I’m still a tourist here in Siem Reap. So my fellow interns and I made plans to do the tourist thing and go to the temples at sunrise.

Sunrise at Angkor Wat was beautiful and serene. This portion of the temples is the oldest of the whole complex, built for the Hindi god Vishnu in the 12th century. It has been the least affected by time and the elements.

Seen below is Bayon, quite possibly my favorite of all the temples (there are over 15.)

We soldiered through till sunset, which everyone watches from a plateau. To reach the top of the mountain/temple/plateau, tourists must first climb a long winding fireroad up the mountain and then five very steep staircases to the top of the temple. It was a great workout! And well worth the view from the top.
